For me, much of the challenge of entering and being in midlife have been made more difficult because I had no idea what was coming — particularly the changes to my sense of life and body. I feel like I’m always saying to myself, “No one told me this!” If you could tell your younger self before she hits her middle years what to expect about this phase of life, what would you say to her?
Tell us what advice or preparation you would give.
It's OK to put down the things that don't belong to you. It feels scary to break generational habits and roles, but you are brave and strong and you can do it. You'll feel so much better when you're embracing your whole, truest self.
It’s okay to want things for yourself. You can pursue goals that aren’t considered “appropriate for a godly woman” without apology. You matter, no matter how many times people say you don’t.
Embody being a writer. There is not some goal you have to achieve or something you have to prove to others in order to allow yourself this artistic time each week , each day. You are worth it. Make time to write more-even when your children are small and you don't make money from writing. Set better boundaries and protect and respect your time to write.
